Amante Ibiza

Amante is not a beach club in the Ibiza sense, and that is precisely why people go. It is built into the cliff above Sol d'en Serra, a narrow cove just south of Cala Llonga on the quieter east coast, and you reach it down a dirt track and then a rocky path with the sea opening up in front of you. The cove below is pebble and stone rather than sand, set between two rock walls, open enough to catch a swell and a current on a windy day, and the water is startlingly clear because there is no sand to stir up. Terraces step down the cliff face, so almost every table has the drop and the horizon in front of it. The kitchen is the serious part: modern Mediterranean cooking built on local and organic produce, with more than seventy dishes written each summer and specials changing twice a week. Around it Amante has assembled a set of things most beach restaurants do not bother with, daily yoga, open-air cinema nights, and private dining. The management is upfront that the clifftop setting is not ideal for small children and will seat families where it suits their age best. Bookings for parties over eight go by email. Come for the setting and the food, not for a sunbed day.
