Zi Maria is on Praia de Faro, the narrow barrier island beach connected to the mainland by a single bridge near Faro airport. The restaurant has a terrace directly over the beach and is considered the most serious kitchen on the spit, with local fish as its focus. The rest of the strip is made up of casual bars and snack bars rather than fine dining. Sunbeds with shade can be hired on the beach itself. Because the island is narrow there is ocean on one side and the Ria Formosa lagoon on the other. Parking is limited and the access bridge is a single lane.
