Coral Bay

Tonnarella is the beach that serves Mazara del Vallo, a long sandy shore on the far south-western corner of Sicily where the coast faces almost due south toward Africa. Coral Bay runs a private plot along the Lungomare Fata Morgana and the operators have more than twenty years in the local concession trade, which shows in the way the ground is kept: raked sand, umbrellas set with real distance between them, and ergonomic loungers rather than the standard plastic. Beyond the umbrella rows there is a lounge area with shaded tents and seating, and reserved canopy spaces for anyone who wants a screened corner for the day. SUP boards and pedalos are available, and parking sits fifty metres from the sand. The food is the local argument for coming here rather than the next lido along: Mazara is the home port of Sicily's red prawn fleet, and the kitchen works that catch alongside seasonal vegetables, salads and grilled fish, with breakfast served early and cocktails timed for the sunset, which from this west-facing stretch is unobstructed. Opening runs from eight in the morning to eight at night, daily.
