Tortuga

Tortuga has been on Plaka beach since 2001 and sits towards the quieter southern end of the four kilometre sand strip on the west coast of Naxos, roughly fifteen minutes from Naxos town. Beds are set on the sand under woven bamboo canopies, and the restaurant sits a few steps up from the beach. The operator states that there is no loud music and no DJ programme, which distinguishes it from most of the beach clubs on the island. The kitchen is modern Mediterranean with a seafood emphasis, including ceviche, tuna tartare and prawn orzo, with mains generally in the 15 to 40 euro range. Reservations are recommended for dinner in July and August. The final approach is on an unpaved track, and the beach behind the venue keeps its natural dune vegetation.
