Lido Sud

Marina di Modica is a small, low-rise resort on Sicily's south-eastern corner, and Lido Sud occupies a stretch of its golden sand at Via Arenile. The beach here is genuinely sandy rather than gritty, and the water off this coast is shallow and clear enough that the town has built its summer reputation on it. The lido is set up for people who want to stay all day rather than sunbathe and leave: alongside the umbrellas and loungers there are hot showers, changing cabins, a beach volleyball court and gym equipment, plus a play area for children and quieter shaded corners for adults. Windsurf lessons, canoes and pedalos are available on the water. Food is the other half of the operation. The pizzeria is the thing people come back for, working with fresh local ingredients and turning out thin, light pizzas, and there is a fuller menu of antipasti and pasta courses behind it. A cocktail bar handles the aperitivo and after-dark end, and the club runs live music into the evening with the sunset as the backdrop. The site is barrier-free for wheelchair users, and pets are welcome.
