Assaona occupies a spot on the Passeig Portixol, where a former fishing village has been absorbed into the eastern edge of Palma. The concept is built around Mallorcan and Mediterranean cooking served directly on the sand and on a sea facing terrace, with the menu changing through the season. It opens every day of the week, with the restaurant running from 10:00 to 24:00 and the kitchen from 12:00 to 22:00. Music programming and a weekly cocktail feature are part of the format. Guests arriving by boat can be brought ashore by tender. Because it sits inside the city, it works as much for a long lunch as for a full beach day.
